How this course works
In this course, you will learn Everyday Portuguese through dialogues. These dialogues mimic real conversations that you will likely have when you speak Portuguese in your every day life, for example if you go to the hairdresser, if you buy bread, or if you want to chat with your neighbour (to name a few).
By listening to and repeating these dialogues, and following the instructions within the course, you'll start feeling more confident to speak in front of native or proficient speakers of Portuguese, and you will slowly feel less frustrated or nervous (which I know are common feelings for many students, when attempting to speak Portuguese.
Besides the helpful 30+ dialogues about different everyday situations, you will also get the following powerful bonuses:
Bonus #1 consists of vocabulary lists related to the dialogues. Each list provides words you can find in the dialogue itself, words related to the topic discussed, and verbs that you can apply to conversations around that same topic. The vocabulary comes organized in a table, and you will always see the word alone and then the word used in context, both in English and Portuguese.
In bonus #2 you will get 5 tips that can help you understand and speak fast Portuguese. As you may have noticed, when Portuguese speakers have a conversation, they tend to mash words together and speak really fast. These tips will help you understand the changes that native speakers make when speaking with others, and they will help you start recognising and using them as well.
Bonus #3 is a set of conversation starters in Portuguese. This includes suggestions of topics and sentences that you can use when you don’t know what to say or how to start a conversation.
Bonus #4 consists of a list of connectors that can help you make your speech more fluent. When speaking, native speakers use these words - like “although”, which in Portuguese is “apesar de” and “furthermore”, which in Portuguese is “para além disso” - to sound more natural and to connect speech in a way that makes sense, and with this list, you’ll be able to do it too.
And last but not least Bonus #5 will help you tackle conversations via the phone. I compiled a list of sentences that you might need when speaking on the phone. Furthermore, I added examples of pre-recorded phone messages that different companies and services might use, so that you will know what the message is about when you call them.
Here is what my students say about the course:
"Muito obrigado! Os diálogos são extremamente úteis (Thank you very much! The dialogues are extremely useful)"
"Yes, very useful! Especially names of specific types of meat are difficult to find with translation apps. Besides that it helps to use parts of this dialogues in a broader sense."
"While I understand and speak some Portuguese, (the) vocabulary list is a great reference source in addition to your situational conversations."
"Olá Mia, yes very useful, thank you for also including the article of the nouns (on the vocabulary list)."
"Já vi!!! Muito obrigada Mia, adoro este tipo de diálogo que acho muito útil no dia-a-dia (Thank you Mia, I love this kind of dialogue, which I find very useful in everyday life)."
Olá! I am Mia, and I have been teaching Portuguese for more than a decade now. From a young age, I loved languages, and I knew that I wanted to become a teacher pretty early on. So I did. I taught Portuguese and English to children in state schools, but I just knew that was not yet what I dreamed to do.
After coming back from The Netherlands, where I lived for three years, I did not know what to do. I had a master degree in teaching Portuguese as a Second Language, but I had no job and things were not so easy here in Portugal to get one.
I was at a loss, but actually that is when everything started to change: I started teaching one-on-one classes online and soon I realised that people really enjoyed what I did! More and more, I had students coming to me and asking me to give them classes.
So I came up with an idea: I would build my own online school and create courses online, that could reach more people and help students become fluent in Portuguese!
And this is how Mia Esmeriz Academy was created! I studied and studied, I learnt a lot of new skills to be able to teach online and I put together years of experience and hours of commitment that culminated in my online courses!
Just come with me in this adventure and don't forget to have fun while learning Portuguese :)
